Description

The retinoic acid receptor alpha (RAR-alpha) is a receptor for retinoic acid. This metabolite has profound effects on vertebrate development. Retinoic acid is a morphogen and a powerful teratogen. RAR-alpha controls cell function by directly regulating gene expression. Chromosomal aberrations involving RAR-alpha are a cause of acute promyeloma leukemia (APL).
